I hope this website and blog will be an encouragement, especially to parents who are committed to learning all they can about the emotional and spiritual needs of children.

Dusty Shoes
Tonight, I heard David Jeremiah say that the best way to determine whether we are living out the Great Commandment is to notice whether we have "dusty shoes, worn out knees and open hands."

His words are prompting serious soul reflection on my part.

Are my shoes splattered with dirt and dust from walking through life with friends who are hurting or struggling?

Are my knees tattered and worn out from praying for people to know and love God and find their peace and fulfillment in Him?

Metal lockers slammed as childish chatter filled the hallway. Breathless boys and girls with dangling shoelaces scooted to water fountains. Lingering outside the classroom to soak up the fading moments of recess, all but one of my first grade students dawdled.

Blue-eyed Katiana screeched down the hall with gym shoes squealing and blond hair flying. Wrapping her thin arms around me and squeezing tight, she giggled. "Mrs. Swatkowski, you are just the right kind of squishy for hugging."
